A tough weekend against the Brazilians of Dee Why. Both teams fought well for the majority of each game, however it was lapses for short periods that let Dee Why through us. Missing 9 players on the weekend, with some of those playing also not 100% did not help. The main thing to keep in mind is how long the season is still and no matter what the results are, we maintain a positive, supportive culture across the squad.
A BIG mention this week to Ryan Haworth who played both games, scored a goal in each AND picked up points in each! Massive effort from Ryan who keeps getting better as a striker, his non stop work ethic for full 90mins is something we can all copy. A thankyou to all players who backed up across both games due to numbers.
FIRSTS – 3-1 Loss
Goal – Ryan Haworth
3 points – Ryan Haworth, 2 points – Lachlan Charles, 1 point – Jono Grew
The firsts went into the weekend searching for their first win, however with a number of key players missing it was always going to be a big ask. We didn’t know what to expect from the newly promoted Dee Why Brazilians, but they proved to be a tough challenge. The first half started quite even both teams creating chances, but the defining moment would be a dubious penalty which gave Dee Why the lead going into half time. Jono was immense in defence all half, pulling off some crunching tackles! At halftime, the chat was positive and the boys knew they would come out stronger
Second half proved a much closer affair. Ryan a constant hassle upfront pressing unlocked the defence and got us back in the game with neat header through. The firsts actually played some of their best football this season which made the result harder to take, creating more chances and much more physical in defence. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, Dee Why finish the game at 3-1. We bounce back again this week at our spiritual home of Wyatt!
RESERVES – 6-2 Loss
Goals: Isaiah Vumbaca, Ryan Haworth
3 points – Jacob Ditchfield,
2 points – Tom Bass,
1 point – Ryan Haworth
Ressies walked out to a hot May Saturday afternoon off the balmy shores of Dee Why Lagoon. Confidence high after a flying start to the season, the boys were ready to keep their streak going. Unfortunately the game was decided by a poor spell of 20mins in the second half, separate from the rest of the game where we played some great football and moved the ball much better around the field.
The Dee Why team opened the scoring in first half, after some crafty football down our left wing through their number 10. With Isaiah up front for first half, we created a lot of chances and got back into the game at 1-1 through his first goal for the season. Dan and Connor providing our rock defence at the back. Jez pulled off some amazing diving saves to keep us in the game! Some more pressing from Dee Why got them a second goal and we went into halftime 2-1 down, but still well in the game.
Second half we came out firing again, Lachie B and Marco combining well down the left wing, Tommy winning lots of challenges and Chuddy and Corey holding our midfield. Dee Why scored again through a mix up at our back to make it 3-1. Ryan the menace up front as always got us back in the game to make it 3-2. From there however things went downhill, an amazing strike outside the box to make it 4-2 to Dee Why, then 2 quick goals for them on the counter against us. The ressies kept fighting as always however it was too late. We learn from it, dust ourselves off and start with a clean slate this week against CC!
