Over 45/3 Match Report
The March to Mid-Table Mediocrity is well underway for the Twenty Minuters, BTH’s favourite Over 45 Div 3 team. Coming off the heady heights of a forfeit win and a Friday evening 1-0 trouncing of the bottom team the scene was set for the rematch of the 8-1 loss to top of the table Neverbeen.
Never have the Twenty Minuters been so pumped up Curly had raced back from his paintballing and Bettsy had shaved down specially for the occasion. Even better was the fact we had Strudel on one leg in goal and as everyone knows Strudel on one leg is better than Strudel on No legs but not as good as Strudel on two legs.
It started off a scrappy encounter with slow moving behemoths colliding in the quagmire and Yeti decided the best place was to stay on the sideline. Al’s younger brother was doing his best to sound like a Squadron Leader with cries of “Al’s Ball Al’s Ball Over” and the Colonel supplied some finger licking tackles. Suddenly the ball broke loose in the Neverbeen goalmouth and Nutters pounced on it like a Crystal Palace supporter on a dole cheque. The ball headed goalward but there was a big Neverbeen paw in the way, what would the ref do? Answers on a postcard to BTH You are the Ref Comp as we still don’t know but the Twenty Minuters were given a goal.
By now Susie’s better half and the Bog Trotter were bossing the midfield and Pisa was running around like a man half his age, Roberto was engaging in a bit of Irish dancing and Snoz Leroux was running around sniffing out a chance.
Suddenly Neverbeen broke loose and this big fella with a beard hit the perfect shot, Neverwas stretched but was just unable to get the decisive flick for an own goal and the opposition were level.
Strudel’s half time speech was far more positive than anything Frenchy has ever uttered in his life and Cam said something about Life being like a box of chocolates and it was time for round two. Cams older slower twin came on to mark the aging hippy who really should know better. Then out of nowhere there was the majestic sight of Nickelarse running free as if fleeing from the Hound of Hades itself, a superb miskick, a don’t argue to the goalkeeper and then a netbuster from all of 1 foot and the Twenty Minuters were ahead.
Nothing much else happened except a certain amount of desperate defending by the Twenty Minuters and some unpleasantness from Neverbeen and then the match was over. 2-1 to the more attractive and amusing raconteurs and the beers flowed.
U12 Div 2
vs Dee Why @ Wyatt Ave
First half ended 1-1. There were some wonderful early crosses from Connor and Matty, which were unlucky not to get a final touch into the net, until a momentary lapse in defence which saw some open Dee Why attackers get an early goal. We saw some great passing from the whole team, until we were rewarded with goal to Pete, after beautiful passes from Charlie, to Max, to Jami, Matt and then onto Pete for a wonderful team goal. The defence was awesome again, with a sensational goalie save from Liam, who put his body on the line saving a certain goal.
Second half ended 3-1 for a wonderful and well deserved team win. We all agreed it was the best game we have seen the boys play this season. Again excellent defence in the second half, who constantly turned defence into attack, including crossing the ball to Toombsie who sprinted the length of the field, passing the ball to Max who was unlucky to score. Good defence from Max who didn’t give up getting the ball, and was rewarded with an intercept and then weaved through Dee Why’s defence and passed to an open Pete who slotted it past the goalie for his second. The pressure was now on Pete who was up for the $10 hatrick reward from Coach. It came all so close but he was denied by some great defence from Dee Why. Did I mention how good our defence was! Zane was always there, keeping the ball away from our Will in goal, who did some great saves, including one diving and stretching out to his left. Jamie and Ethan worked well to prevent Dee Why’s corners from getting into the goal. Our third goal came from Toombsie who put in another solid effort. It came from Man of the Match, Ethan who turned defence into attack with him and Max getting the ball clear for Toombsie to run free for a goal.
WU9 Rubies
vs. Manly Allambie Sapphires
Won 2-0
The Rubies made it five wins out of five and kept a third straight clean sheet against a resolute Manly Allambie team. The majority of the play was in the Sapphires half but they got plenty of bodies behind the ball to keep the BTH attacks at bay. Olivia was able to break the deadlock before half time however with typical determined play and a cool finish. The second half was a mirror image of the first with Leah able to give the Rubies the second goal they deserved after the Sapphires failed to clear a corner. Eadie was player of the week with a very energetic display but all the girls did fantastically well again.

Vs Beacon Hill
3:2 WIN
Beacon Hill game out strong with several attempts on goal in the first half but with our super mum Karen in goals and some solid defence by Bec they were kept scoreless. We capitalised on our limited possession with Sam putting one in the back of the net just before half time giving us a 1-0 lead. The second half saw beacon hill score 2 consecutive goals, but our ladies kept their cool and equalised through Hermine’s penalty kick. Time was running out on this must win game against last placed Beacon hill, then Sam came through with the goods scoring the winning goal and giving our team a much needed 3 points. Great effort ladies fighting till the end and thank you to the mother’s in our team, on the sideline and those that could not be with us - this win was for you.
WU18-2
6 to 1 win
Lining up to check names at 11 am at Wyatt watching the sky turn to black and the players on the pitch bearing the same colour everyone knew they would be in for some fun in the mud. Our two previous games we lost due to playing one out football where everyone thought they were Lionel Messi, todays game was meant to be an exercise in playing the ball passing and supporting. My simple instructions were everyone was limited to only being allowed to beat two players before they had to pass the ball, thankfully even with a wet track the team got the message and looked like a proper football team passing and supporting. Comedy Play of the day was a toss up between Amy and Izzy, the winner went to Amy. Amy Hall is a predator always ready to chase a ball into the goals, when she spotted a through ball she put on a sprint quickly catching the defensive sweeper who had a 10 metre headstart. The scene was set Amy against the goal keeper with nothing in her way other than a mud puddle, after Amy slid 20 metres through the penalty area with all of Wyatt and the surrounding Belrose area in laughter the goalie calmly picked up the ball. Goal of the day Rachel Engelander, (1 of 4 she scored) heading through the penalty area avoiding 3 defenders off balance in the mud and heading sideways Rachel while moving to the left smashed a low hard ball into the right hand side corner of the net off the outside of her right boot. Special mention to Emma Humphries our stand in goal keeper Emma made a few brilliant saves including one where her reflexes kicked in causing her to dive backwards and sideways into the mud before her brain could tell her otherwise. U13-3 Emeralds
U13/3 Emeralds played Brookvale FC at Terrey Hills. The morning was crisp, we had a full team- all 14 players and everyone was excited, well it was mother’s day! The first half was fast with lots of running and great passes from all the girls. Layla and Lily were great in defence supported by Claudia and Giselle. Piper shone with her throw-ins. Chelsea and Ruby hustled in mid with some fancy footwork from Alex. Bronte and Aimee had some amazing breaks down the sidelines backed up by Emilie and Ellen all passing well and support by Zoe who scores the first goal for the Emeralds. At half time its 1-1, unfortunately Ruby injures her knee and the girls tell them mums they love them and head off for the second half. As the clouds get darker and closer, the rain begins Georgie is super busy in the goals and again does a tremendous job. The girls thoroughly enjoying the rain, keep pushing for another goal…..spectators getting a touch wet with the unexpected rain…. The girls celebrate their game with their mum’s giving them a rose and posy of chocolates… Final score 2-1 to Brookvale.
BTH U10 Bears 4 (3) – CC Strikers 1 (0)
Without a couple of regular players and no substitutes this weekend, this was always going to be a challenge against a big physical CC Strikers team. With this challenge comes opportunity for players from other sides to join in the fun and games and an opportunity to play in different positions. The theme for the day was keep moving the ball around, believe in your abilities and never give up.
The first goal was a great example of turning defence into attack and Elliot was on hand to score the opener after 10 minutes. This settled the team and appeared to stun the opposition, after some sustained pressure from BTH Bears, Reese put in a big tackle in midfield, scurried away into the space to beat 2 players before releasing another missile past the keeper. Just before the break, fast feet, quick simple passes and some creative instincts saw Elliot put the finishing touches to further extend the lead.
The second half started off well with the Bears putting together great combinations and keeping possession. It was a touch of luck and a long ball that saw CC Strikers get a breakaway goal. This only motivated the Bears to play better and work harder at moving the ball into spaces whilst keeping the possession. The two smallest players on the park were absolute terriers and proved to be far too quick for there much larger opposition, it wasn’t long before Elliot was put into some space and score in the bottom corner.
The attitude of this team is fantastic, they are given homework, make a big effort at training and the small improvements all add up. Owen Laing was the Bears player of the day, with yet another heroic effort and tenacious attitude to win the ball to create opportunities for the team.
Always believe you can do it and never give up Bears.
U8 Vipers
The sun was shining for Another fabulous game for the U8 Vipers, defeating the Pittwater Bulldogs 5-3, with Toby Press scoring 4 goals!
