WU13-3 - Emeralds
1-0 Win The Emeralds were very keen to get their first win of the season after some very close encounters in recent weeks, so the signs were looking a bit shaky when a mystery illness had stricken many of the team out to only leave them with a bare eleven for the game vs Avalon. Three of the girls were also backing up from helping the Diamonds in the morning, so It was going to take a monster effort today to come back from this adversity and notch up their first win. The defence held firm all day, the midfield worked hard with some fantastic runs and the frontline kept Avalon on the ropes all day. After a well worked move in the first half, we won a penalty at the end of the half and Zoe narrowly missed to the left of the post. The girls persevered in the second half and Bronte (player of the match) made some silky runs into the final third with Emily in support. Giselle moved to goals after picking up an injury. In the end, Alex slotted the well deserved winner and the game ended 1-0 to BTH. Great effort from all the girls, with special mention to the two new girls Lily and Claudia, who played well in only their fourth game of the season. In adversity all the Emeralds stood tall and worked together as a team to take their first 3 points of the season. Onwards and upwards we go.
U12-2 Round 5, Saturday 6th May took us to Allan Border Oval, Mosman. Fact – Did you know Alan Border is a New South Welshman, and not a Queenslander. Anyway, it was a beautiful day and awesome oval to play on, but as soon as the whistle went, we found ourselves 1-nil down (must have the picturesque oval??). This soon became 3-Nil, after a dominant display from Mosman that possessed some very tall and fast players, but essentially they were just hungrier for the ball, constantly chasing and challenging us all the time. Our shape and midfield didn’t seem to be organised this week, however the boys didn’t give up and kept trying really hard and this was rewarded with nice team play, with the ball being passed up the field with Jamie running down the right and passing a thru ball which was touched in by Max to bring the score to 1-3 in the first half. There was no splitting the teams in the second half, with Mosman increasing their lead to make the final score 1-4. They scored off a long-range penalty kick (unfairly given to Liam according to the boys at the end of the game) which went over everyone’s heads and impossible to defend. Overall, I thought the score didn’t reflect the final score as we were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions, with our attack too hungry and slightly offside to some wonderful thru balls from Luke, Jamie and Ben. Notable performances were Connor who has great speed to chase down Mosman’s attack; Benny’s foot work, Matt’s hard work down the left hand side with some wonderful crosses and some wondering keeping by Zane.
Under 8 Vipers Well Saturday's game was a nail biter! Both teams were evenly matched & it was a tight game against the Wakehurst cockatoos. Despite the teams best efforts the vipers were defeated 2-1
BTH U10 Bears - Wakehurst Cyclones
6 (3) - 0 (0) This past couple of weeks the team have been working at creating space and attacking the space with quick forward running with the ball. Reese put the finishing touches to an attack down the left side to put the Bears in front. Pressure was applied from the ensuing kick-off and Lucas found some space out wide, quick thinking he took a shot from out wide catching the keeper off guard. 2-0. Thomas got on the scoresheet finishing off a pressured tackle in the goal mouth. The second half saw BTH carry on where they left off, coming close on a handful of occasions. Special mention to Owen this week, his quick feet and tenacious battles in midfield making a massive difference. With 10 minutes to go, Reese pulled the trigger from outside the box with a ‘Brillante’ shot sending the ball into the top corner. This seemed to calm the team down and they settled into playing their passing game keeping possession, ending up putting Lucas into space and scoring a walk-in goal. To cap it off Reese bagged the hat-trick with touch of magic learnt from the Futsal season. Final score 6-0 Player of the day went to Reese O who has been in some great form of late, following a season of championship Futsal. Leading from the front with good skills, creating chances for his team mates and working hard in transition.

11.30am at Wyatt Oval felt much like High-Noon. Bathed in sunlight, the much maligned and imposing Avalon A side arrived and began their warmup with a swagger. Why not? Over 50 goals in four matches, three years at the top of the table, how could anything possibly go wrong? From the opening whistle, it was clear that reputations only count with those who care to listen. Constant pressure was applied; no time on the ball and turnovers came more and more often. Frustration crept in and then, caught in their own box, Avalon panicked, taken down by rushed defence, BTH were awarded the penalty. The shot.. 0-0. Avalon breathed in and realised this was just the beginning.. Nothing changed, intensity was relentless and BTH begun to assert authority. Quality ball was becoming more common and justly rewarded, a sharp shot and the scoreboard reflected the state of play 1-0!
A strangled midfield and a game plan thwarted brings desperation, longballs to the flanks produced wave after wave that meant desperate defence. Constantly turning up for one another right down to incredible last ditch saves kept the BTH net from harm then a well timed through ball levelled the score.. No, wait, offside! The linesmans flag was up! This is turning into a dogfight..
The second half went back and forth. See-sawing momentum and desperate defence, brutal counter attacks and a midfield in a constant arm-wrestle, the tension was at breaking point. For the away team, frustration turned to desperation. The home team held firm, buoyed by a partisan home crowd, a slender lead and stubborn resistance. After what seemed an eternity, the full time whistle sounded. A big win, and it meant so much more. Belief; they're not unbeatable and this competition has just begun!
WU9 BTH Rubies vs. Brookvale Lemurs
Win 6-0
The Rubies’ fine form continued with a convincing win at Grahams Oval. Abi, who was a constant menace going forward, opened the scoring. Olivia continued her goal scoring streak with the second before Abi grabbed her second to see BTH comfortable at half time. Olivia made it four before Leah grabbed a brace including a GOTY contender. The clean sheet, as always, was a bonus with the defence ensuring keepers’ Fran and Lozi had very little to do. Leah took out the Honest Chicken fries with a great marshalling performance in defence followed up by some mazy attacking runs. Leah Worrell, Player of the Week
