Another beautiful sunny Sunday and another great game from the Emeralds. A 3-0 loss to one of the competitions leading teams was a great outcome given we were a number of players down. The girls all played their best and some great defending and some fantastic goalkeeping helped keep the score down. The team is really starting to come together with some great passing and some really impressive defending. Best ever performances from Emma, Ruby and Ellen and thanks to Graeme’s expert goal keeper training some fantastic goal keeping by Georgie. The team is making significant improvements each week and the hard work at training is really paying off. We should be back to full strength this week so looking forward to another exciting game.
Points for this week were Georgie 3, Ellen 2 and Ruby and Layla 1 point each, well done Emeralds.

Mens Over 35-7A
9 goal thriller at Millers
The team was down to a bare 12 for Saturday's game, shaggers back, birthday party, horse racing, tinder date and broken toe were just a few of the dodgy reasons for the late scratching’s. (How times have changed)
All the boys turned up with a new found optimism, feeling like all our recent strong efforts were going to be rewarded today.
An ambulance turned up during our warm up, I think a few of our players went into pre game shock after seeing how small the game day beer esky was.
The first half was all BTH, dominating in the middle, giving them nothing in defence and our attacking trio were causing the opposition headaches from the get go with plenty of runs from Bruce and Matt. Jason had two goals to his name early, both sweetly hit left footers, it pays to have two feet. We also got a penalty late in the half and with our gun penalty taker Matt on the bench, Gary had to step up and thankfully redeem himself from the first round shocker where he put it over the crossbar. 3-0 at this stage before a late goal to manly Allambie made in 3-1 up at half time.
Jason got his hat trick early in the second half and it looked like the game was in the bag at 4-1. Allambie gambled with the office side rule after this and got two quick goals to make it 4-3 with 10 minutes to go. Once someone explained the offside rule to referee, that Allambie players weren't allowed to be 5m in front of our players, order was restored to the day.
Ian hit a thunderbolt from 30 yards out following a Jason header and murder she wrote.
Big thanks to Nick, Mark and Phil for backing up and helping out for a second game. Phil had an early encounter with a groping bush whilst taking a corner. It was a few years since Phil has been man handled in that manner, so much that it effected his vision for the rest of the game, he seemed to confuse yellow and orange after that point as their midfield kept getting onto some beautiful through balls from Phil. Nick somehow made sense of our patterns of play (or lack thereof) and Frenchie, concerned with our goal difference made sure the gap didn't blow out too much..
BTH won 6-3 in a thrilling goal feast and the big man with two feet, Jason ended up with 4 goals for the day but all the team played well with many players putting in PB's for the day.

AL2 Reserve Grade
Round 8 matched us up against Manly Allambie, a side we knew we had to get a result against. The pitch to be fair looked similar to a motocross track so playing it on the deck wasn’t easy. Winning the toss we chose to kick down the slope with the sun behind us. The first 15/20 minutes we had the majority of the play and created a few half chances, once again though struggled to find the target. Allambie had a few good spells bombing up the right wing but the intensity was lost when the half time whistle blew. Josh Shuntup gifted an easy first half - nil nil.
It seems to be a recurring theme this season, not getting out of the blocks until the half time pep talk with the gaffer. Much needed motivation and new ideas sent us into the first half with more want. From centre, we started with much more energy, pressing high with some good passing and moving off the ball. We created lots of space which sent Andrew Gaussen tearing forward with a Dani Alves type burst, leading to our first goal. A perfectly executed cross into the danger zone fell to the feet of an eager Jason Finlay, more than happy to slot the ball home. Within minutes of the restart we continued to press Allambie causing one of the best strikes of this season, Mousa Dayoub leathered home a great strike from 35 yards out, doubling the yellows lead to 2-0. Allambie once again had a few half chances but Josh made them look like routine saves. With the hot afternoon taking its toll, we were only too relieved to hear the ref blow for time. 3 more vital points keeping us in the hunt…up the yellows!!

Under 9 Thunder
Thunder 1 – 1 Beacon Hill
Another great game from the Thunder’s. A very tight score line matched the intensity of the game with some great work by the whole team. Some very impressive goal keeping from Archie and Caitlyn made all the difference and a great goal from Sam G kept us in the game right to the end. Archies cracking shot of the right post late in the 2nd half kept the pressure on the opposition.
Some great attacking plays from Lucas and Hayden was backed up by great defending from Declan, Sam H and Liam and some solid midfield work from Charlotte.
The completion has certainly hotted up this year and the team is really enjoying the competition.

Women’s AL-1
Listen, I am going to be straight down to the point. The team played amazingly! Nada was incredible, she felt that she didn’t even need to be looking at the goal to score - She had it under her belt no sweat. Bec Cogan played a strategic move, never ever seen before… A ‘planned boot’ (or so she says) at our own goal to confuse the enemy and boy did it confuse them. A very big thank you to Macca- taking one for the team with an all mighty yellow card, doing what we all wanted but no one had the guts to do. It’s nice to know our team always has our back.
Have you heard the joke: ‘Why does the soccer ball curse so much?’ A: Because he gets a kick out of it’… and that’s what we did, for an hour and a half - straight into the back of the nets.
Although Mosman’s score did not reflect our skills, our determination and our game we were still the best team of the field. The thing I love about this team and this club is not just the skills, the good looks, but that we are one. We are one team and no body stands in our way, yes they may technically have more goals than us but they are not a better team than we are.
We will always be the one #oneteam.

U18/2
v St Augustines B
After a tough few rounds with limited numbers, some morale sapping losses and even having to forfeit a game, it was important on so many levels for the boys to regroup and get a result this week. We have not been helped by injuries to key players, so our spirits were boosted by the last minute clearance of Wataru Ogawa (one of two Japanese exchange students who have been waiting several weeks for their registrations to be approved). His presence in the team proved to be significant and from the opening whistle we showed much more composure across the park. Our backs- led by clear communication from our centre backs Ben Thomas and Vincent Wuenstel- showed a steely commitment as they looked to bring home our first clean sheet of the season. They were helped by Jack Harry, volunteering himself as keeper so he could play (though recovering from an ankle injury)- kicking left-footed and pulling of two clutch saves! While we dominated possession through the first half, it took a brilliant first time shot from Rob Fenn who showed his classy finishing ability with a welcome goal. As the game continued, it seemed only a matter of time for the result to be secured as several chances went begging. It took a bit of a gift from their keeper, who fumbled a miskicked Luke Shorter long shot, to double our advantage midway through the second half. This is how the match would finish, with our defence working hard and in unison to shut down any hope of a St Augustine comeback. A big thank you again to our borrowed players from the 18/4s- this time Hokuto Unemoto and Sam Rose, who were a considerable help to us. The 2-0 result was massive for our team and despite a difficult start to the season, we remain in touch with the leading pack. Look out when we get our full team on the paddock!!

Ladies O35-1 Divas
Well we knew we had a tough game ahead and a few of us had spent Mother's Day afternoon sussing out the opposition the week before (with refreshments of course) talk about dedication :) Game started off fast and us slow. The wings were running their little hearts out and most of us went into defence mode giving them a fair amount of space in the middle and so we soon fell behind, we just weren't making the connections, but some stern words from our coaches at half time made us rethink our strategy. The second half was all ours, defence was perfectly positioned and tight on their attackers ...only one got through! The mids moved up and strikers launched into attempts at attacking. Second half was a good result with only 1 goal for each team. Divas have a huge advantage in this comp, a great bunch of girls that play as a team. Even opposition commented on we're 'the best team to play against’ The makings of a winning streak for the next round, bring it!

U11 Div 1
BTH Blades 0 Mosman Sioux 6
Following an MWFA regrading during the week, the Blades found themselves dining from the top table. They were soon forced to fight for scraps however against a very well drilled Mosman team.
From the start the Sioux quickly showed that they were a greater force to be reckoned with than their Cherokee cousins who the Blades vanquished the previous week. Mosman's slick passing game sliced through the Blades time and time again and only some poor finishing, desperate defending and heroics in goal from Matthew Plunkett kept the score respectful at half time with a two goal deficit.
The Blades came out positive in the second half and made inroads into the Mosman half and forced a number of corners. Kyle Ormiston went closest to getting the team back in the game following some determined solo work down the right.
Such was the strength of Mosman though, every misplaced pass from the Blades resulted in a Sioux counter attack which inevitably led to more goals, despite the hard work of player of the week Jamie Griffiths who tried his best to marshal the defence and accurately clear the ball to Blades' feet.
Despite the score line, the Blades can hold their heads up for their determination, epitomised by Amy Humphrey and Benny Lyu. The team will come out stronger and better from this game and any more like it while playing in division one. Mosman have set a bar for the Blades to aim for and surpass which they will with continued hard work and determination on the training field.

Under 10 Ravens
The pre-game warmup was tense as Coach Wes warned us about the formidable Curl Curl Barracudas. The game started and it was tough. The Barracudas had players that showed real ability, running with the ball and challenging our defenders and goal. But we were consistent in defence and the back line held strong controlled by Jono who did a great job. Our midfielders once again proved too strong for the opposition, running the line in attack, getting back in defence, and just consistently winning the ball. They took every opportunity to feed the forwards who twisted, turned and weaved their magic around the Barracuda's defence resulting in a 4-0 goal frenzy up front. A big rap to all our players for their ongoing sportsmanship and outstanding effort but... Man of the match was Alex who scored a hat trick in the first half and then was brilliant in goal in the second defending every section of the net with some saves that left the crowd in awe.
