What an amazing season for the Sapphires! All the girls once again gave it their best and went above and beyond. Go Sapphires.
A nail biting 1st half was easily turned to one of celebration. Not sure what the coach said at half time, but the 2nd half brought us some sensational goals, well done Lou!
Player of the game went to Charlie Marks for her brave goal keeping in the first half and her scoring strikes in 2nd half.

AL2 First Grade
Week 7 saw the Raiders take on Forest Killarney at Terrey Hills. Much has been the story for most of the other games this season we started the game second to everything and off the pace. They controlled the game for the first 20 minutes but didn’t really trouble the defence, we could see it ourselves and upped the intensity which paid off through Scotty Mac charging at the defender and shrugging him off for a clear 1 on 1 opportunity and slotting home neatly into the bottom corner. 1 quickly became 2 when Adam fired home beating the keeper on his near post with a well-placed low shot. The belief and composure seemed to come back and we looked more comfortable on the ball and not as panicked. The 3rd goal has to be contender for goal of the season as Adam again, picked up the ball just inside their half and unleashed an absolute ripper of a cross, only for it to find the back of the net! The second half allowed us to play some neat passing and there was plenty of room for movement on the bigger pitch.
Esteban was also in fine form taking on their left back and usually two or 3 other players as well and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself. Our 4th came from an unlikely source as a corner was played into the box towards the back post, the keeper managed to get a hand to it but dropped it in front of the beast that is Paul Cornforth, not needing to shout ‘Paul’s up’, as it dropped kindly for him to slot home on the half volley on his left, nice! 21 goals for 3 is adding up to a nice little tally but we need to stay focussed on the results and improving performances from the first whistle.

AL2 Reserve Grade
Round 7 saw us matched up against Forrest Killarney, the opening 15 minutes we were playing some scrappy stuff but still on top. A long free kick into the box led to our opening goal, Felix the fox in the box latched on to a spilled ball and put it into the back of the net. We failed to go on after that goal, a lack of chat and intensity brought the opposition onto us giving them a few good chances, but Joshy at the back was equal to it. Finishing the first half at 1 up was a relief after a far from perfect first half showing.
Second half we came out and looked a completely different team, showed a bit more intensity and using our pace down the wings we created our second goal, a well taken finish again by Felix doubling our lead to 2-0. Not content to sit back and play safe we carried on pressing and creating a lot of chances. A great finish from the edge of the box from Ben Sheard worthy of being on match of the day looked as if it was the final nail in the coffin for the traveling Killarney. We had plenty of other chances, it could have easily been 5, but a couple of good saves kept it at 3. The tail end of the game Forrest Killarney had a lot more of the ball but failed to score, not playing our best but still taking all 3 points is good to see Lads.

Ravens
The Ravens were hungry for a win after two tough draws and they stepped up to the mark. From the start we dominated in attack and were brutal in defence. The Midfielders made their presence felt all over the park. GOAL!! GOAL!!GOAL!!
It was a goal fiesta and a stellar performance all round. Avalon never stood a chance. 8-0 Win to the mighty Ravens.
Special mention to Stephen who has been recovering from a broken foot but has turned up each week to cheer his team on.
We can't wait to have you back next week!!

U11 division 2
BTH Blades 5 Mosman Cherokees 1
Coming off the back of a run of good wins, the Blades went into this game high on confidence but on a Melwood artificial surface where they had struggled in the first round. They soon banished the ghosts of the plastic pitch by taking the game to Mosman and grabbing an early lead when Sam Keller's toe beat the fingertips of the keeper close to the goal line.
Keller doubled his, and the team's tally, following some determined running from Kyle Ormiston turning defence into attack, to give the Blades a comfortable half time lead.
The script for the second half should have been for the Blades to carry on where they left off but the Cherokees came out much stronger from the break and soon reduced the arrears after the Blades failed to clear one of their own throws close to the corner flag. The Mosman team's purple patch continued and the Blades knew they had a game on their hands. Player of the week, Daniel Baikie, and his co-defenders weathered the storm and slowly they started to push back the pale blue tide.
The Blades were able to breathe a bit easier when Jamie Griffiths cut in from the left and slotted the ball past the 'keeper for the Blades' third. This was followed by a goal from Luke Worrell who found the net through a crowded defence from a central position. Griffiths added the icing with a low shot, again from the left, which was helped over the line by the effervescent Ben Lyu.

Ladies AL-1
Today our Div 1 girls versed Mosman, an experienced team, sitting right at the top of the table. The game began with our two resident midfield players, Jacquie Pashley and Sam freeman, working the ball up and dominating the field in attack, resulting in some great pressure upon the Mosman defensive line and the goalie. As the first half progressed we saw the game change into more defensive play for BTH, where we saw Shay Loupos in her element, sweeping everything up that came her way with absolute ease. Unfortunately before the half time whistle blew, Mosman received a direct free kick on the edge of the box which secured them a 1-0 lead at half time.
The second half began with an early goal from Mosman, putting them ahead 2-0, but despite the score the girls went out there playing at full throttle! A direct free kick resulted in another single shot goal for Mosman. Regardless of Mosman's lead we still saw the girls play with their heads held high, with some great tackles by Mel Toovey and some great through balls from the backline through to our striker. Although the final score of 4 - 0 does not show it, our raiders sent those girls home with a contested win and they know to fear us next time we meet. All in all, it was an unfortunate loss with a few things not going our way, but it was great to see our div 1 girls playing for each other and with such heart on and off the field!
